Chartwells, our school meal provider, has informed the council that the cost of all school meals will be rising from the start of the new term in 2025. From January, school meals at the Newport secondary schools that use Chartwells as caterers will be increasing by 18 pence per meal, from £2.95 to £3.13. The increase will not affect the parents and carers of students who receive free school meals.
Chartwells recognises this will be an added financial pressure on parents and carers, and we would encourage you to check whether you might be entitled to free school meals, by following this link to Newport City Council’s website.
It is also worth noting that families who are eligible for free school meals can also apply for additional help with school costs. You will be able to find out more by following this link to Newport City Council’s website.
Families with lower incomes can receive support from the Welsh Government through the School Essentials Grant and Free School Meals.

Newport Live are running targeted sessions for junior girls aged 11–18 years old, providing opportunities to experience the gym environment and exercise classes at Newport Live venues to increase confidence and willingness to try new fitness based activities.
This event starts at the cinema in the Riverfront and heads over to Station, our city-centre based gym. To book, contact lauren.bourne@newportlive.co.uk. The sessions will cost £10 per session and payment can be made on the day by either cash or card, but please book in advance.

Congratulations to Eleri Davies, Evie Forrest and Millie Forrest on achieving 5th place in the Elite 10 –14 Girls Team competition last weekend.
Following success in the Welsh Championships and Central Zonal finals, the team progressed into the finals representing St Julian’s school and Wales.
Against stiff competition, the girls performed brilliantly, and we are very proud of their final placing in the British Championships.
Congratulations to Isaac Barry for his selection to the Great Britain Under 20 Triathlon team. Isaac will be competing in the World championships in the Under 20s category of Aquathlon. This is a swim and run event which is hosted by World Triathlon in Pontevedra Spain in June 2025.
Congratulations also to Lucas Salvage on his selection for the Welsh Athletics team, competing in the 2025 SIAB Cross country International in Falkirk later this month.
Well done to the Y11 boys 5-a-side football team who won the South East Wales tournament yesterday held at Lliswerry High School.
And finally but not least, congratulations to Izabella-Eve Bishton on being selected to represent Wales in the first Womens Youth Darts World Championships in Gibraltar, later this year. Izabella will be competing in the Under-16 Girls category.
Comic Relief or ‘Red Nose Day’ as it is commonly called is on Friday 21st March. This will be a non uniform day in school.
This charity supports many worthwhile projects here in the UK and all around the world. This year the charity is celebrating 40 years of helping communities. All donations are greatly appreciated. You can donate via our Gateway app or by bringing in an item to our foodbank to support our school community.
Young Carers Action Day 2025 is on Wednesday 12th March, and this year's theme is "Give Me A Break", focusing on the importance of rest and respite for young carers.
